Naked Without Makeup
Makeup Rehab
Now I’m not saying you should give up wearing makeup altogether! That wouldn’t make any sense! What I want you to do is accept yourself to the point you’re comfortable to show you’re true self.
How are you going to do that? Well take it nice and easy, step by step.

Yet another beautiful makeup picture.
Step 1: Knowing the situations when wearing makeup is necessary
This kind of situations would be work (of course depending on what kind of work you do), dinner parties etc. Wearing makeup for work shows that you are a consistent person who takes care of herself. Somehow, it makes you seem more reliable.
Step 2: Don’t underestimate your loved ones
Chances are, your friends and especially your family have already caught a glimpse of you without makeup. And guess what? They still like you! It’s ok to put a little less effort into looking good when you are around them. If they really love you, your looks are not what you impress them with. You’re safe to feel comfortable around them. Do you want your husband to see your bare face for the first time on your honeymoon?
Step 3: Don’t be a clown!
Don’t be the one girl at the gym who refuses to sweat in fear that she’ll ruin her makeup. You already know there are situation where you are expected to look nice, like when at work. But there are also situations where looking your best takes second place. And gyms are one of those places! People go there to work out, and improve their appearance, not to flaunt it! So just accept that you will not look your best in these types of situations!
Step 4: Easy does it…
It’s Saturday morning. You just got up and haven’t pampered your face yet. Your friend calls to tell you she’s in the paper. Can you put something on and run down the street to buy a newspaper? If you’re comfortable to do that without wearing any makeup, then you’re on the right track!
Step 5: Learn to accept yourself!
This is a bit harder. Now you have to be able to go out every now and then and to show your bare face in public. This is who you are, this is how you look. Try to trust yourself enough to let people see the entire you, including those tiny faults you despise so much.
Step 6: Just forget about it!
It’s awesome to use makeup to boost your confidence. But you also want not to feel self-conscious when without it. Whenever you feel your confidence slipping, remind yourself that nothing has changed. You’re the still beautiful person, only this time you didn’t bring you guns along for the ride.
I know, I know… We’re supposed to have 12 steps for this. But 6 will do! After all, you’re not giving up makeup entirely, you’re just learning to feel comfortable without it!

Just stumbled on to your site. Interesting column! I’m 27 and have never worn daily make-up ever. I realized in high school, when everyone else was wearing make-up, that the day they didn’t wear it, they looked horrible. I never wanted to use make-up as a crutch and catch myself off guard…
Wow! Good for you Donna! I’m only 19 and I already wear make-up almost daily!
